Material: Silk
This kimono has a precious pattern called Bingata and is mainly made in the Okinawa region.
This cloth, which was dyed in multiple colours with a single pattern paper, was developed under the patronage of the Ryukyu dynasty (now Okinawa, Japan) at the time.
Only the royal family and the warrior class were allowed to wear it, and ordinary people were not allowed to wear it.
The Ryukyu Dynasty was a thriving trader with neighbouring countries and is characterized using rich colours such as red, yellow, and blue that make you feel the unique tropical atmosphere, influenced by Japanese Yuzen and Asian countries.
This kimono is called Komon and is worn by young women as fashionable clothes. In Japan, these kimonos were not allowed to be worn to formal occasions such as ceremonies and cocktail parties.
The pattern is called “Kanzemizu”, in which water patterns are drawn in indigo, and trees, flowers, birds, etc. are carved into a pattern paper and coloured, so the pattern gives the impression of a woodblock print compared to hand-painted yuzen, which is also why this work is so popular.
The lining of the hem and cuffs, called “Hakkake”, is made of brightly coloured fabric.
Depending on the colour used here, the difference in age and taste of the wearer was expressed. Also, the colour used here is often the same colour as the pattern drawn in the kimono.
This is the history of this kimono before they meet you.
Now they will make another history with you.
